New biological insights by mapping of metabolomics data to metabolic pathways and by generating qualitative models

Metabolomics, or the study of all cellular metabolites, promises to be a new cornerstone in disease diagnosis and precision medicine.  Several recent reports demonstrate that metabolite profiles are excellent indicators of the health status of individuals.  In addition, metabolomics monitoring is likely to be included in the clinical trials on a routine basis.  However, the numerical data of metabolite abundances typically presented in the form of matrices is not suitable for making biological discoveries.  We propose that the metabolite data can be mapped onto metabolic pathways and if/then type of scenarios be simulated to gain addition insights from the data.  Familiarity with the concepts of AI/ML and basic proficiency in programming is expected.
