Risk-based layout of multi-level process plant

A good plant layout needs to ensure that the associated piping and land costs are minimized while the overall safety of the process is maximized. Various approaches exist in the literature that attempts to optimize the plant layout subject to various types of constraints. However, to date, there has been practically no attempt to integrate both individual and societal risk compliance in the process of plant layout development. The present work proposes to develop a methodology to enable risk-based plant layout design of a multi-level process plant considering a variety of risk scenarios.
