Modeling of drying of thin film polymer coatings

This project aims to understand the effect of operating variables such as air temperature, flow, and thickness of polymer coating on its drying behaviour.  Also, an attempt is to be made to optimize these variables to achieve goals such as meeting the residual solvent specifications.  The project places emphasis on two types of coatings: i) binary coatings consisting of a polymer dissolved in a solvent, which turn glassy during drying, and ii) multicomponent coatings that contain two solvents and a polymer.  This project needs computer coding skills to write codes to solve stiff differential equations using platforms such as Matlab.
