Title
Energizing the Future

Abstract:
Energizing the Future India, world's third-biggest oil importer and consumer imports more than 80% of its oil and is a key driver for global oil demand growth. India is committed to become Net Zero by 2070 as part of global energy transition and carbon reduction. In order to meet the Net-Zero target the thrust should be on renewable energy which brings the carbon neutrality. Major domestic Oil & Gas companies are also taking initiatives to reduce the emissions and become Net-Zero. HPCL too have the following projects in progress and on the anvil. HPCL is aiming to become Net-Zero by 2040. As part of this we are taking initiatives in increasing the solar and wind power (current is 100 MW wind power and 44 MW solar power). Further, HPCL is setting-up more than 5000 EV charging stations As a step towards the Government of India’s Hydrogen Mission, HPCL is the first Oil Marketing Company to set up a pilot project of 370 TPA Water Electrolyser at Visakh Refinery for Green Hydrogen production. The project is under implementation and expected to be mechanically completed by December 2022. Further significant energy efficiency schemes are implemented and under consideration in refineries to reduce emissions. The grass root refinery cum petrochemical project - HRRL (Hindustan Rajasthan Refinery Limited) is designed for targeting Q1 performance at design stage itself and is having Oil to Petchem conversion ~ 26%.

In order to propel the growth towards sustainability, HPCL Green R&D centre is working on the following:
HP-RAMP( Rapid Acidification for Methane Production) and HP-ASAP ( Assisted Single Step Acid Pretreatment) are two in-house technologies to convert bio-mass to CBG and 2G-ethanol respectively.Extensive research is carried out in the fields of electrolysers (Solid Oxide Electrolyser) and batteries (non-lithium batteries).
HPCL Green R&D centre is targeting to become the first net zero facility in HPCL.
The energy landscape for the future is dynamically changing and has to be more aligned with the nature taking cognizance of the climatic change that is visible.
