Principal Investigator


Nagappan Ramaswamy
is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay. His research focuses on developing materials and systems for electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices such as fuel cells, electrolyzers, redox flow batteries etc. Nagappan received his B.Tech. in Chemical and Electrochemical Engineering from CECRI, Karaikudi, India in 2005 followed by a Ph.D. in Electrochemistry from Northeastern University in Boston, USA in 2011. Post Ph.D., he worked as a Research Associate at Nissan North America, Michigan USA in lithium-ion batteries from 2011-2012. Following this, he was a Senior Research Engineer at the Global Fuel Cell Activities Division in General Motors Corporation, Michigan from 2013 to 2024.

Doctoral Candidates


Amisha Mukherjee
is a PhD student in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay. She completed her MTech degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Jodhpur. Her research focuses on green hydrogen and CFD-based modeling to understand and optimize electrochemical and energy conversion processes. Beyond research, she enjoys reading books and has a keen interest in history.

Rajath is a first year PhD student in the Department of Centre for Sophisticated Instruments and Facilities (CSIF) at IIT Bombay. I completed my Masters in Chemistry from VIT Vellore in 2024. My research interests align towards the field of electrochemistry and as part of my research work, I will be working on Porous Transport Layers for water electrolyzers. Beyond academics, I love music, sports, movies and travelling. (Joint Ph.D. student with Prof. Chandramouli Subramanian, Department of Chemistry)

Asad Ansari
is an M.Tech student in Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay. He has completed his Bachelors from University of Mumbai. Asad is a passionate about sustainability and his M.Tech project focuses on alkaline water electrolysis for cost effective hydrogen production. Beside academics, he enjoys writing poetry and hiking.

Akshay Kumar Baruah
is a M.Tech student in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay. He is currently working on making Electrolyzer test bench setup and Electrolyzer cell. Outside of research, he enjoys playing badminton.

Suryansh Dubey is an M.Tech student in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay. Previously, he completed an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from University of Petroleum and Energy Studies. Currently, he is working on the Proton Exchange Membrane Water electrolyzer development for the economical production of hydrogen gas. Outside of research, he enjoys trekking and listening music.

UnderGraduates



Naitik Kumar Agrawal
is a third-year undergraduate student at IIT Bombay, deeply interested in the future of clean energy. My research focuses on electrochemistry, hydrogen, and electrolyser technologies. As part of my third-year Supervised Learning Project (SLP), I conducted a techno-economic analysis of various water electrolysers to evaluate their practical and commercial viability. Outside of academics, I stay active through badminton, lawn,tennis and running. I am particularly very passionate about entrepreneurship and ideas. I love singing, playing musical instruments and reading books
