Water electrolyzers are electrochemical devices that use renewable electricity to split water into its elemental components such as hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen is a common chemical feedstock in major chemical industries and is also a potential energy carrier for automotive and long-term energy storage applications. In this project, we will be designing and building a test bench for water electrolyzer and its various components. The test bench will comprise of a DC power supply, flow pump, impedance analyser, hydrogen sensors, humidifier, gas-water separator, back pressure regulator, electrolyzer test cell etc. While some of the components can be procured directly, others have to be designed and fabricated. In this project, we will design and assemble these components into a functioning electrolyzer test bench. Students who intend to gain hands-on experience in building and assembling devices are encouraged to join. Students with experience in the design of process flow diagrams, P&ID diagrams and CAD designs will be encouraged.
