Chiral alcohols and acids are great use to pharmaceutical industries as they could be used as intermediates for synthesizing many drugs, and these products are needed to be produced in bulk volumes. There has to be a viable process to synthesize such compounds using a method which is cost effective and environment friendly. I am currently working on developing a bio transformation process to convert Ketones to chiral alcohols and nitriles to carboxylic acids using Alcohol Dehydrogenase and Nitrilase enzymes respectively which are over expressed in an E. coli system.
