 Research title: Performance monitoring of controllers/loops

With the increase in demand for more robust and efficient controllers, the risk of more factors effecting the performance of controllers increased. This resulted in a branch of research formulating different indices that can assess and diagnose the controller/loop performance. Control loop performance assessment and diagnosis can together be termed as performance monitoring of controllers/loop. The aim of the research in this area is to provide an online monitoring system which can alarm the engineer by providing an index which not only assess the performance but also quantify the effect of root causes. The root cause may be tuning parameters, input and output constraints, model plant mismatches and so on. Until methods to analyze the effect of various factors listed are formulated, the attempt to diagnose is futile. This research focus on formulating such indices which can quantify the effect of different factors along with the performance assessment.
