Research Interests: Silver nanoparticle-activated carbon composites for water disinfection.
Thesis abstract: Silver is well known for its antibacterial activity. In the present work silver nanoparticles are
synthesized and impregnate on activated, porous carbon blocks for developing the technology
of water purification and disinfection. The goal is to provide low cost, potable water, free of
microbes. Silver nanoparticles interact and kill the microbes (like E. coli) present in drinking
water, whereas activated carbon acts as efficient adsorbent. Nanoparticle structure and related
adsorption and diffusion issues in carbon nanopores is also investigated by performing
Molecular dynamics simulations.
