Use of Arrested Micro-emulsions for Drug Delivery and Gas Separation Applications.

The project will explore design of materials using nanostructured glasses for which a patent has been filed. An incoming student can take the project towards design of structured nanocomposites for specific applications including membrane for gas separation and controlled drug delivery. Other experiments will be based on tools required to characterize the rheology, microstructure and the phase diagrams of these materials and design of materials.

Freeze Dryer

Freeze drying or lyophilization is the process of drying a material that has been frozen, without going through the liquid phase. The FreeZone 2.5 Liter Benchtop Freeze Dry Systems have dual refrigeration systems for small load of samples with very low eutectic points. The dehydration technique enables liquid or slurry products which have previously been frozen to be dried under a vacuum.

Millipore Water purification system

Model details: Elix 3 UV Water Purification System (120 V / 60 Hz), Millipore
Tap water initially passes through a Proguard pretreatment pack; removes particles and free chlorine from the water. The water is then pressurized with a pump and then is purified by reverse osmosis (RO). The RO product water then passes through an electrodeionization (EDI) module; reduces levels of organic and mineral contaminants. The removal of organics, ions and bacteria has been monitored using, respectively, a TOC analyzer and ion chromatography.  read more »
