Investigation
on mixing/ segregation and physical binding of multicomponent granular material
for different types of mixers and storage

(Project will be co supervised by Prof Devang Khakhar and Prof Manaswita Bose) 

There are different powder mixing technologies, shear based
and shear free mixers. It is important to mix all ingredients uniformly to
deliver a right product. The parameters can be varied in these mixers are
mixing time, mixing speed (RPM), head space (unfilled space). Currently for mixing
powders, Mondelēz, operate two type of technologies. Ribbon Blender (RB) &
In Bin Blender (IBB).

The
objectives are to

·        
Study mixology profiles in Ribbon Blender and in
In-Bin-Blender (with internals/without internals)

·        
The shear force generated during mixing in each of these
equipment

·        
Effectiveness of mixing and mix integrity retention in
downstream process

·        
The physical binding (since only blending, no reaction)
strength of ingredients in each of these mixers

·        
To identify mixing process parameters like mixing time,
speed, and head space
