Experimental and Theoretical Investigations on Gas-assisted Nucleation of Solids

While it is well-documented that solids may provide a heterogeneous surface for nuleation / preciptiation of gases and their consequent transformation into liquids, the possibility of the reverse phenomenon, i.e., gas bubbles providing a heterogeneous surface for nucleation of solids, has not convincingly demonstrated in the literature. Several studeis have been reported in this arena, but the proposal that solids may precipitate on gas surface has not been validated through either direct expeimental evidence or from fundamental molecular-level simulation. The present project will focus on this topic and combine both experimental and theoretical explorations on the possibility of heterogenous nucleation in gas-assisted crystallization.
