Design and control of divided wall columns

Divided wall columns (DWCs) represent a class of systems with process intensification and energy integration. While the steady state design of such columns pose several economic benefits, strong interactions between key process variables gives rise to operational/control challenges. This project aims at tackling such challenges through simultaneous design and control of such columns. Initially, a simple non-reactive, ideal mixture system like BTX is considered. The developed approach will then be extended for more complex systems such as homogeneous/heterogeneous azeotropic distillation, reactive DWC and extractive DWC.

This is a simulaion-based project. Experience with Matlab and optimization tools will be preferable.
