10:00 am to 12:45 pm Session on Winds of Change in Chemical Engineering – NRK's vision and its relevance today
  Brief Session Abstract : Prof. Kamath had a holistic view of Chemical Engineering which encompassed both theory and practice. His prescription of good Chemical Engineering practice was one that used science that is relevant,technology that is appropriate, economically viable and sustainable. He also had the vision that Materials Science will play an important role in technology development. This systemic view of Chemical Engineering has underlined the growth of Chemical Engineering over the past six decades. He inspired his students by presenting a picture of Chemical Engineering as being the most versatile of all disciplines and challenged his students to be as enterprising as the discipline demands.This session will focus on the winds of change in Chemical Engineering (in the academic and industrial scene) and Prof. Kamath's role in laying the foundation for such transformations to occur.

  Brief Session Abstract : Prof. N.R.Kamath inspired the minds of many and touched the hearts of many more in his illustrious professional career spanning nearly four decades. As an academician, he inspired many of his students with his knowledge of the domain and philosophical approach towards any problem. To his colleagues in academia, he manifested himself in many roles - leader, friend, philosopher, guide and at times taskmaster. As an administrator, his decision making had transparency, logic and a sense of fairness. To the industry he remained a trusted and knowledgeable counsellor;he gave his unstinted support to many entrepreneurial ventures initiated by diverse industry segments. As a person, he impressed many with his personal traits of self-discipline and punctuality, his erudition, his principled stand on issues, his accessibility to all and his power of expression. This session will provide a forum for those who have come under the influence of Prof. N R Kamath in some way or the other to express their reminiscences of him.
