Single atom catalysts for selective olefin conversion

Single atom catalysts are an emerging class of unique materials with atomically dispersed metal sites acting as active centres for catalysis. Since their discovery in the past decade, single atom catalysts have opened a new frontier in catalysis research with applications in diverse fields.

In this project, we will explore the development and application of novel single atom catalysts for the selective conversion of light olefins into higher hydrocarbons by oligomerization. Compared to homogenous catalysts, heterogeneous catalysts are generally limited by poor product selectivity in olefin oligomerization. The aim of the proposed research is to develop solid single atom catalysts with enhanced product selectivity in olefin oligomerization.

The project will involve synthesis and characterization of new catalytic materials and testing for olefin hydrogenation/ oligomerization.
