Modelling air pollution reductions over India in 2025 under different mitigation scenarios


The National Clean Air Program (NCAP) aims to reduce air pollution levels in 2025 by 30% over 2017 levels, in over 200 cities which do not meet air quality standards. Is this achievable under current, promulgated control measures? Air quality management needs determination of how much emissions reductions are needed to achieve the goal. In this project, the student will analyze WRF-Chem simulations made (by a postdoc) with India emissions for 2017 (reference) and 3 scenarios for 2025 (developed by a PhD student). Different metrics would be estimated including  annual mean, 98th percentile values, frequency of exceedances beyond levels not to be exceeded more than once per year. Aptitude for python scripting and data analysis is required.
