Assessment of climate change impact on thermal power plant performance
Climate change is a reality and is expected to significantly affect the Indian subcontinent. The changing climate is expected to affect the performance of thermal power generation due to changes in air temperature, relative humidity, water availability and so on. The objective of this project is to perform a detailed assessment of this impact. We will use detailed process models (e.g., ASPEN Plus models) to study how performance parameters (such as efficiency, net output, and water footprint) changes due to expected climate patterns. Particular focus will be on water consumption and footprint. Later, we may also look at the impact of regional water availability on plant performance. The work is completely computational and will involve extensive process simulation.
