Codon usage in membrane proteins.

Synonymous mutations are changes in the DNA which do not change the amino acid being incorporated in a protein. Recent evidence has shown that these mutations can favorably/adversely affect fitness of an organism. Ideas in protein folding suggest that membrane proteins are likely more susceptible to such synonymous mutations than cytosolic proteins. In this project, we will test this idea by analyzing protein sequences from various species.
