Title
High-resolution numerical simulations of turbulent multiphase flows

Abstract:
Turbulent multiphase flows, involving the transport of mass, momentum, energy and charge, are found in an abundance of natural and industrial settings. I shall discuss recent work on the fluid dynamics of clouds in the Earth's atmosphere, and the convection-driven melting of ice in the Earth's cryosphere. I will also mention some work on pattern formation in rotating Rayleigh-Benard convection; the dynamics of
irregularly shaped solid bodies suspended in flow; the fluid dynamics of disease transmission; and the transport of particles in turbulent flow.

Brief Biosketch (Given by the speaker):
I graduated from IIT Madras with a dual-degree BTech-MTech in aerospace engineering. I obtained a PhD in physics from TIFR Hyderabad studying the fluid dynamics of clouds. In my current postdoctoral fellowship at Nordita, I study the dynamics of multiphase rotating convection relevant in the cryosphere, the dynamics of solid bodies settling under gravity, and charge transfer in ice-particle collisions in the atmosphere.
