Signal transduction during neutrophil chemotaxis on bioactive surfaces (TA/FA)

Neutrophils outnumber other white blood cells at sites of infection / injury by almost two orders of magnitude. Depending on the signaling cues, neutrophils may either destroy their tissue microenvironment or assist in its repair. The proposed project aims at distinguishing between synthetic biomaterials which elicit these two apparently contradictory signaling cascades. The insights gained from this study will enable a rational choice of biomaterials for tissue engineering applications.
