This project is sponsored by the Consortium for Clean Coal Utilization being
coordinated by Washington University at St Louis (WUStL), and is part of larger
programme to study carbon capture in natural aquifers. It is proposed to study the
rates of absorption of carbon dioxide in aqueous suspensions of selected minerals
with the objective of identifying effective absorbents, and assessing the speed of
capture. The project also has a theory/modelling/computational element where
transport phenomenareaction kinetic based models will be developed for these
experiments. Scholars working on this project will have the opportunity to spend 3 to
6 months at WUStL
