Model 3076, TSI
Synonyms: Constant output atomizer; Collison type air-jet atomizer
“generates nanoparticles of 20-300 nm”
This Collison-type atomizer generates aerosols of constant particle size in concentrations over 107 particles/cm3. Stainless-steel components make it suitable for the specialized applications listed below, in addition to basic aerosol research.
Purpose: It is used to generate aerosols of mean particle size of 20 nm – 300 nm by atomizing a solution/suspension and evaporating the solvent.
Principle: Compressed air expands through an orifice to form a high-velocity jet. Liquid is drawn into the atomizing section through a vertical passage and is then atomized by the jet. Large droplets are removed by impaction on the wall opposite the jet and excess liquid is drained at the bottom of the atomizer assembly block. Fine spray leaves the atomizer through a fitting at the top.
Components: Drain bottle, atomizer stand, connecting pipes
Requirements for operation: Syringe pump, Compressed air supply @ 35 psig
Applications: Filter testing; Instrument calibration; Material synthesis; Biological and medical research; Research requiring polydisperse, high-concentration aerosol
Specifications: Number mean droplet diameter: 0.30 μm DOP; 0.35 μm water
Geometric standard deviation: 1.6 to 2.0
Particle material: PSL, DOP, oils, and other aqueous or alcohol solutions or suspensions
Generation rate (nominal): 2 × 106 particles/cm3 (108 particles/sec)
Air flow rate: 3.0–3.5 L/min at 2.5 kg/cm2 [35 psig]
Liquid flow rate: 20 cm3/min at 35 psig (0.59 cm3/min nominal with syringe pump)
