CL 613 Special Topics in Complex Fluids

  1. Introduction to Statistical Thermodynamics
  2. Intermolecular and Surface forces
  3. Thermodynamics and Dynamics of Self-Assembly
  4. Lipids and Biological membranes
  5. Mechanics of CellsĀ
  6. Polymeric Suspensions
  7. Rheology of Complex Fluids
  8. Electrohydrodynamics
  9. Computational Techniques

Several research students of the chemical engineering department and elsewhere work in current areas in complex fluids and soft matter. There is a need to equip these students with concepts and methods in advanced topics in complex fluids. However, the need fluctuates depending on the current interests and the population of students working on similar topics. Therefore, a special topics course is justified which may be run in both even and odd semesters of the masters programme. From the contents listed above, two or more topics will be covered in a particular offering depending on the needs then. The course is proposed to have at most two instructors at a time from the list mentioned above. The specific topics to be covered will be advertised before the commencement of a semester.
