M.Tech Applicants for Project Positions

As a special drive to popularise among undergraduate students (with GATE scores) an option of direct admission to a PhD degree, the department of chemical engineering welcomes select candidates (from the applicants of the M.Tech programme) to appear for the research project interviews. Special invitations to this effect are despatched close to the project position interview dates. These students need not send a separate application for these positions. Their application data provided for the M.Tech programme will be used for processing.

Further Information

Apart from the M.Tech degree, IIT Bombay also offers research degrees: MS (by research) and PhD in Chemical Engineering. Undergraduate students with a First Class in their BE/B.Tech degree and a valid GATE score are eligible to apply. A selected student is initially registered for a PhD degree, but has an option to convert it to a Master's degree by thesis before the end of the first year. Some frequently asked questions about research degrees of the department have been addressed in this website.

Our department is engaged in research in frontier areas. Pursuing a degree in these can be challenging, rewarding, and providing a satisfaction in your future careers that may not be seen in other pursuits. Consult the FAQ page above for details and prospectus.

If you have already secured an admission to (or awaiting results of) a PG programme in IITB and are not interested in a research degree, please let your classmates and juniors know about the availability of such an attractive career option. Undergraduate students with a valid GATE score can also apply to the IIT Bombay PhD program, independent of any special invitations from us to appear for interviews.

Please Note: The project interviews and appointments are not related to the regular M.Tech Programme.
