Current Research

Consultant interest has been in the
area of adsorptive separation processes which includes theoretical as
well as experimental research. A software package PRODASS 9PROcess
design of adsorption separation systems) has been released recently
(with significant contribution from Dr. (Mrs.) Rama Prakash of CAD
Centre of this institute). Reactor modelling has been another
area of interest. The notable industrial reactors simulated are
: the slurry reactor for vegetable oil hydrogenator, multistage
catalytic naphtha reformer and the reactor - regenerator assembly
in Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) process. A software package
FCC has been made available to Indian refineries. Ocassional
interest has been in air pollution modelling. A software
called ALIAS (ALgorithm for Impact ASsessment) has been developed
for one of the leading pollution consultants for modelling of
dispersion from a single continuous point source. An update ALIAS-N capable of
simulation of dispersion from multiple continuous point, line and
surface sources is now available for use. A continuing interest has been
in numerical solution techniques (especially for partial differential equations)
and optimization techniques. CASIO (Computer Aided Self-Instruction in Optimization)
which is a set of modules with theory backed by PC-based instruction and a sprinkle
of problems with Chemical Engineering bias is ready for publication.
